AUTO-TITRATION STUDY
An AUTO-PAP titration is a titration done in adults above the age of 18 years with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. This can be done conveniently at home and reduces the need for in-lab titration studies. In this circumstance, the patient is provided with an Auto-titrating PAP device which has the ability to alter the settings in the patient to provide optimal improvement in the obstructive apnea noted in the patient. This device is used under the supervision of a prescribing physician and the parameters for use are determined by the physician. The device typically has monitoring capabilities so that use and effectiveness of the device and the settings can be checked.
The devices can be used to deliver CPAP, Bi-level PAP, Auto-PAP and Auto Bi-level.
WHO QUALIFIES FOR A HOME TITRATION STUDY?
- Patients 18 years and older
WHO DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR A HOME TITRATION STUDY?
- Patients less than 18 years of age
- Patients with severe hypertension and or heart failure
- Patients with severe neurologic conditions and neurodegenerative diseases
POSITIVE AIRWAY PRESSURE TITRATION STUDY
A PAP titration sleep study is similar to a regular sleep study but in addition will require the placement of a Positve Airway Pressure (PAP) device over your nose, or nose and mouth to provide additional airflow and pressure to keep your airways open and to assist your breathing. The Polysomnography, also called a sleep study, records your brain waves, the oxygen level in your blood, heart rate and breathing, as well as eye and leg movements during the study while you have the Positve Airway Pressure settings adjusted to find the best setting at which the patient breaths comfortably, sleeps comfortably and has optimal oxygen levels. This study is done at all our sleep labs. You’ll be asked to come to the sleep center in the evening (After 8pm) for PAP titration
A titration study can be a CONTINOUS POSITIVE AIRWAY PRESSURE STUDY (CPAP) OR A BI-LEVEL POSITIVE AIRWAY PRESSURE STUDY (BIPAP)
